📌 2026 Tax Payment Guide in 60 Seconds
Where to Pay? For taxes, the safest channels are Digital Tax Office (GİB); for SGK/Bağ-Kur, the SGK Card Contribution Payment system. e-Government and mobile banking are available 24/7.
Critical Dates: Tax returns are generally due by the 26th of the month, while SGK and Bağ-Kur payments are due by the last day of the month. However, deadlines can be extended by official announcements (for example, it has been extended to April 7 for March 2026).
Discount Opportunity: debt-free and regular payers can keep a 5% discount in their pocket.
Good News for Young People: If you are between 18 and 29, you benefit from a tax exemption for 3 years.
Credit Card Advantage: You can pay your tax and premium obligations by credit card and take advantage of your bank's free installment campaigns.
What Is the Tax and Social Security System? How Does It Work?
If you own a business, are self-employed, or are acting as an employer in Turkey, the two biggest stops on your financial calendar are Tax and Social Security Contributions. Managing these obligations correctly is not only a legal requirement, but also the key to protecting your business's financial health.
Which Tax Is Paid When? (Tax Types)
The tax system is based on the declaration basis* . The most common types you will encounter in the tax system are:
Value Added Tax (VAT): This is the tax arising from the sale of goods or services. It is generally declared and paid by the 28th of each month.
Withholding and Premium Service Return: Covers rent payments, freelance invoices, and withholding taxes for your employees.
Provisional Tax: The "advance tax" your company pays on the profit it earns in 3-month periods. It accrues 4 times a year (February, May, August, November).
Income/Corporate Tax: The tax paid on net earnings earned throughout the year. Sole proprietorships declare in March, capital companies (Limited/Joint Stock) in April.
(*) What Is the Declaration Basis? It is taxpayers reporting their income to the state themselves. The state calculates the amount based on this declaration; therefore, accurate and timely declaration is critical.
Social Security Statuses: 4A, 4B, and 4C
In the SGK world, who pays contributions under which status is determined by codes starting with the number "4":
Status | Who Does It Cover? | Payment Responsibility |
4A (SSK) | Employees working under an employer | Paid by the employer |
4B (Bağ-Kur) | Self-employed individuals, partners | Paid by the person themselves |
4C (Retirement Fund) | Civil servants | Paid by a public institution |
Bağ-Kur (4B) Coverage and Obligation
If you have opened a sole proprietorship or are a partner in a Limited company, you automatically fall under 4B (Bağ-Kur) coverage.
Note: If you are not working elsewhere as a 4A (insured) employee, your Bağ-Kur premiums start running as of the day you establish the company. These premiums give you rights such as retirement, access to healthcare, and disability benefits.
Employers' Responsibility: SGK Contributions
If you employ staff, you must track not only their salaries but also the SGK employer and employee shares payable to the state. These payments are generally made by the end of the following month. Payments not made on time can cause you to miss out on government incentives (for example, the 5-point discount).
Tax Debt Inquiry and Payment Methods
As of 2026, you can handle all your financial obligations from your smartphone in just a few minutes:
This platform, offered by the Revenue Administration, is the main hub for tax payments.
dijital.gib.gov.tr address lets you pay income tax, VAT, MTV, traffic fines, title deed fees, and more 24/7 with the credit or debit cards of contracted banks.
e-Government:
It lets you query and pay your tax and SGK debts on a single screen.
Search for the "Tax Debt Inquiry and Payment (GİB)" service to list your current debts, and via the "4B Premium Payment with Bank and Credit Card" tab you can view both your current premiums and any past-due debts.
uyg.sgk.gov.tr/KartIleOdeme is an instant, up-to-date debt payment portal. It is the most reliable way, especially for Bağ-Kur (4B) premiums and restructuring installments.
Debts that may appear delayed in banks' mobile apps are updated instantly here. By logging in with your TCKN, you can pay by selecting "Current Period" or "Past Period".
Because of updates or technical maintenance in SGK systems, payment deadlines may change. For this reason, it is recommended to regularly follow official announcements.
Mobile Banking:
Mobile banking is the fastest payment method.
By logging in to your bank's mobile app, you can make your tax and sgk payments from the payments section.
Auto Payment:
Although tax payments require a manual action each month, you can set up an automatic payment instruction with your bank for Bağ-Kur and SGK contributions. This helps you avoid forgetfulness, skip last-day rush, and prevent late fees.
💡 Pro Tip
Vergi ve SGK ödemelerini kredi kartı ile yaparken bankanızın sunduğu "Vergi Ödemelerine Ücretsiz Taksit" kampanyalarını takip edin. Özellikle yüksek tutarlı Gelir Vergisi veya Kurumlar Vergisi dönemlerinde bu kampanyalar nakit akışınızı rahatlatabilir.
Incentives, Discounts, and Penalties
In taxes and insurance premiums, the state offers significant advantages to taxpayers who pay on time and meet certain conditions. Here are the critical details that determine how much money stays in your pocket:
1. 5-Point "Regular Payment" Discount
Bağ-Kur (4B) Discount: If you pay your premiums by the last day of each month, you receive an approximately 5% discount on the premium amount for the following month.
SGK Employer Discount: If you have no outstanding debt, the state applies a 5-point reduction in the employer share on the insurance premiums you pay for your staff. This gives you a serious cost advantage per employee.
2. Young Entrepreneur Support (1 Year of Free Bağ-Kur)
If you're opening a company for the first time and are between 18 and 29, you can benefit from this incentive:
Bağ-Kur Support: Your Bağ-Kur premiums are covered by the state for 1 year. According to 2026 regulations, this item has been updated. For coverage and details: Young Entrepreneur Support Guide
Tax Exemption: For 3 tax periods, a certain portion of your earnings (updated each year) is exempt from income tax.
3. Late Fees and Interest
If you delay payment even by one day, the system automatically applies the following:
Late Fee: Interest is added to the principal debt at rates determined on a monthly basis.
Loss of Incentive: You lose your 5% discount entitlement for that month.
Loss of Access to Healthcare: If your Bağ-Kur debt exceeds 60 days, your access to state hospitals and medication assistance may be restricted.
4. Tax-Compliant Taxpayer Discount
Not only in insurance premiums, but also in taxes there is a loyal customer reward. Taxpayers who file annual income or corporate tax returns on time and pay the tax for the last 2 years regularly pay 5% less of the calculated tax (up to a certain limit).

❓ Frequently Asked Questions
1. Why hasn't my debt been cleared even though I paid?
Because of integration between bank and institution systems, the update may take 2 business days. Keep your receipt; if the period exceeds this, you can speed up the process by submitting a "Incorrect Record Correction" petition through the Digital Tax Office (GİB).
2. Can I pay only part of my debt?
Yes. Through GİB, you can select any tax item you want, and on the SGK/Bağ-Kur side you can make a partial payment by depositing a specific amount. However, remember that late fees will apply to the remaining balance and your incentive rights may be affected.
3. Is there a commission on credit card payments?
While public banks generally do not charge a commission for tax payments, private banks may pass on a processing fee according to their own policies. On SGK's card payment portal, very low transaction fees may apply depending on the bank.
4. If I pay to the wrong number (TCKN/VKN), is my money lost?
No. With your payment receipt, you can submit a "Wrong Payment Refund" petition to the relevant institution (Tax Office or SGK) and have the amount applied to your principal debt or refunded to your account.
5. Can I receive healthcare services if I have Bağ-Kur debt?
With premium debts exceeding 60 days, access to healthcare may be restricted. However, this right can still be protected under temporary regulations that remain in effect in 2026. Be sure to verify your current status on the "Eligibility Inquiry" screen in e-Government.
